Why Smoke Electronic Cigarettes?
A couple years ago I made the switch from my old pack of Marlboro’s to electronic cigarettes. If you know me, you know that that was not an easy decision, as I had been a longtime heavy smoker – I’m talking a “2 packs a day” habit for a couple decades. So when I was able to put down my pack of Marlboro’s and smoke electronic cigarettes, my friends knew that these e-cigs must be something special.
What I like most about the electronic cigarette is that I get the old familiar feeling of smoking a cigarette. I had tried to quit smoking many times before — I’ve tried the nicotine gum, the nicotine patches, and was this close to trying hypnosis. Nothing worked. I missed the act of smoking a cigarette. I get that feeling with electronic cigarettes. Just like a regular cigarette, you put the e-cig to your mouth, take a deep inhale, pull the vapor into your lungs, and let out a big exhale. You don’t get that with the nicotine gum or patches.
I also like that I can smoke electronic cigarettes anywhere. My wife used to relegate me to the back stoop to smoke cigarettes, and since I live in South Florida, often times that meant I was standing in the rain (that didn’t deter me from getting my fix, however). When I came back into the house she would sarcastically spray me with Febreze or cologne to get the smell off of me, or make me change my shirt altogether – she couldn’t stand the smell. With electronic cigarettes, that is no longer a problem. They give off no odor, and more importantly, no second-hand smoke. Electronic cigarettes do not contain tar, carcinogens or other cancer-causing agents that you find in regular cigarettes, and are much safer for you as well as those around you. They can be smoked anywhere, including places where regular cigarettes are now prohibited, such as bars and restaurants. You should’ve seen the first time I pulled an e-cig out at the bar — I started getting a scolding from the bartender saying “Hey, you can’t smoke in here!…” until I explained to him what it was. Afterwards, he asked for a puff and became a fan himself!
The last thing I like about electronic cigarettes is that they’re easier on the wallet. I can’t fathom how much many I spent on Marlboro’s over the years – I could’ve probably put my kids through college with that! After buying an electronic cigarette kit, all you have to do is buy cartridge refills. Each cartridge lasts longer than a pack of regular cigarettes, and cost around $5 each – much less than I used to spend on my regular cigarettes.
In the end, electronic cigarettes were a no-brainer for me, and I’m glad I made the change! I’ll never go back to my old cigarettes.
